At Myatt Garden, we are very lucky to employ a specialist music teacher, and our children love making music using their voices, percussion and tuned instruments. They learn to create their own compositions, read musical notation and perform music composed by others.
We believe that music has the ability to act as a powerful form of expression, increasing a child’s confidence, encouraging creativity and providing a space to promote a sense of self-worth. Our music curriculum develops children’s ability to appreciate music from world cultures, to listen actively to music and to make judgements about musical quality.
Music has become an integral part of our Christmas and summer productions in which Myatt Garden children are able to apply the musical knowledge they have acquired into performing in front of an audience with confidence and fluency.
Our Key Stage 2 choir develop techniques such as harmonising, singing in rounds and general musical dynamics. Their tremendous work prepares them to perform at both local and national events such as the Year 6 Production, International Evening, Turning of the Year and Lewisham Live.
We work closely with Lewisham Music Service and their peripatetic teachers offer instrumental lessons to children in Key Stage 2 at a subsidised rate.
