Information for Families: 15.7.22
What a week it has been …… hot, hot, hot!! We have no plans to close next week, despite temperatures predicted to hit 36 or 37 degrees. We do, however, understand that some of you may decide to keep children at home/collect them at the beginning of lunchtime - this will be recorded as ‘Special circumstances’. Please let us know if this is something you are planning to do.
As Year 6 will be doing a dress rehearsal and small group rehearsals, we would appreciate Year 6 being in school.
PLEASE make sure that when your child comes to school they come
- with a hat;
- loose thin clothing that covers, but keeps children cool;
- labelled sun cream.
We will be utilising all of our shady spaces, doing all we can to keep the classrooms as cool as possible and making sure there are alternatives to being in the sun at playtime. We will be keeping the learning simple, doing indoor PE and working hard to minimise movement and stress throughout the day.
With a few adjustments because of the weather, we were still able to have a wonderful week of sport at Myatt! I hope your child has come home talking about the fun they have had whether through a trip to the velodrome, a year group rounders match, trying parkour, learning some street dance or attending a free morning school club.
Reading Book Amnesty
Every year we lose a considerable number of books from our reading areas. As you can imagine if every child left two books at home, this is over 800 books and is expensive to replace. PLEASE have a good look at home this week and return any Myatt Garden books you find - we’ll be delighted to receive them!
Next week we will finish school at the normal time on Friday 22nd July.
The children return to school on Monday 5th September, following two INSET days for staff on Thursday 1st and Friday 2nd September.
Saxon Crown Swimming Club, funded by Lewisham Council and supported by 1Life and GLL, is providing free school top-up swimming sessions to students of Lewisham primary schools. The sessions are provided to help swimmers achieve the National Curriculum standard in swimming, which requires children to swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres, use a range of strokes effectively and perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations. The sessions are for Lewisham Primary School Pupils in Year 4 and above, and will be running at various leisure centres during the Summer holidays. Please see ‘Top Ups’ information'.
This summer Teachsport will be running a Buzzers Academy Summer club at Myatt Garden from 1st - 26th August. This is aimed at children from 5 to 12 years old and designed to suit all sporting abilities and interests. They will be offering a variety of sports from gymnastics to dance, along with the expected football, basketball and cricket. Their aim is for maximum participation in a safe, fun environment.
If you would like more information, please see Buzzers Academy
