Myatt Garden Primary School

Information for Families: 20.5.22

Since we started our OPAL journey in 2019, our play has been completely transformed. Children now have ownership of their play, choosing from a huge range of resources and using them to create their own games.

Walk around our playground at any lunchtime and you will see children making dens, climbing, swinging in hammocks, testing their strength, dancing, dressing up, making mud cakes, playing in role, chasing, jumping over tyres, digging in the sandpit, developing new skills, negotiating with others and being completely immersed in play. It is wonderful!

Play takes up more than 20% of your child’s time at school and is one of the most important parts of their day. That is why we are so proud that yesterday, we achieved the highest possible award for the quality of our play in our final OPAL audit.

Next half term, we’d love you all to join us after school to play alongside your children and see OPAL play in action. Please hold the 22nd June in your diary and we will send more information nearer the time.

Myatt Garden Cookbook
We are really excited about our own fabulous cookbook that celebrates the diversity of our school community by sharing your special family recipes. My mum’s Cornish pasty recipe will be one I’m going to share.

This is an important part of our ‘We All Belong’ project and we’d love you to share your favourite family meals, treats and desserts with us. Is ‘Fish Friday’ your family highlight, a great veggie pakora recipe to share or maybe you’re willing to share your secret Jerk rub ingredients! Thank you to everyone who has already shared, we’re looking forward to seeing all the wonderful recipes Myatt Garden families have to offer. Deadline: HALF TERM Friday 27th May.

A couple of reminders
• If your child is absent it is really important that you contact the school early, if your child is not going to be able to attend school. Safeguarding regulations mean that we have to follow up on any child that is not present. This takes up a lot of valuable office time. Please Email Us or leave a message on 020 8691 0611. If we cannot get hold of anyone, we have to undertake a safeguarding visit to ensure all is well.
• If you wish to take your child out of school during term time it is important that you complete an absence request form in advance. This form can be obtained from the office or from Myatt Garden website

FOMG AGM Reminder
We’re looking forward to seeing you on Monday 23rd May in the main school hall. Doors open from 7pm for a 7.30pm start. Please enter through the pond gate on Rokeby Rd. Walk across the playground to the canopy and enter the hall via the path.

Help FOMG raise money
As part of the FOMG’s fundraising there will be a set of boards promoting the Myatt Summer Festival - We All Belong.   If you are happy to have a board sponsored by Conran Estates outside your home.  Please can you complete this form by this Saturday.  The boards will generate £1,000 which will be allocated to a new water wall in the school playground. If you are moving home or can no longer take a board please Email Us by Wednesday 26 May informing them of the change.

Additionally, if you are moving home and complete a property with Conran they will donate up to £1,000 to the Friends of Myatt Garden.
