Myatt Garden Primary School

Information for Families: 24.6.22

Jubilee Bank Holiday Reminder
All schools were granted an additional INSET day this year as the Jubilee Bank holiday occurred during our half term. Myatt Garden will be taking this INSET day on Friday 8th July. Children will return to school on Monday 11th July.

Sports Day
Our annual Sports Day will take place on Monday 11th July at Goldsmiths Green - please put the date in your diary. Reception and KS1 classes will spend the morning trying a range of sporting activities and KS2 will work in mixed teams to tackle a range of sporting challenges. We will be asking parents/carers to walk down with each class, but you can also join us there to cheer everyone on. More information to follow.

Term-time Absence
Please remember that term-time absence must be applied for in advance before any arrangements are made. There are strict regulations governing absence from school during term time, including holidays and overseas trips to visit relatives.

The law does not grant parents an automatic right to take their child out of school during term time. Our absence request form can be downloaded here: Absence Request Form or collected from the school office.

Children are only allowed to miss school if either:
• they’re too ill to be in;
• they’ve got advance permission from the school.

Absence from school will be authorised if it is for the following reasons:
• Genuine illness;
• Unavoidable medical/dental appointments (but try to make these are after school if at all possible);
• Days of religious observance;
• Exceptional circumstances, such as bereavement;
• External examinations

When deciding whether to allow term time leave, for any reason, the school will consider:
• The time and duration of the leave;
• Your child’s record of attendance;
• Learning that will be missed

Vaccinations
Many children will have missed vital routine vaccinations over the past couple of years, putting them at risk of preventable diseases. The good news is that it’s not too late to protect your child. Children are eligible for their MMR jabs at 1 year and 3 years 4 months. Check your child’s red book if they have one or you can contact your GP to check your child’s vaccine status. If your child has missed one or both of their vaccinations, it’s not too late - make an appointment with your GP as soon as you can.

All vaccines used in the UK have been approved by the UK’s independent medicines and vaccines agency. Find out more at MMR or see the leaflet here
