Special Educational Needs & Disabilities (SEND)
At Myatt Garden we strive to ensure that all children, including those with SEND can, and do, make progress. To this end, teachers focus on how they can support children by making Myatt Garden as inclusive as possible. Using a range of teaching strategies and tracking data, we are constantly striving to break down barriers to learning, ensuring all children are able to access the opportunities on offer and make progress.
Jess Birnie, Lewisham's Specific Learning Difficulties Teacher and Team Manager, says, “I always enjoy visiting Myatt Garden because it is a school with a very evident child-centred and creative approach to learning. When I enter the foyer I am surrounded by wonderful, inventive artwork, which I always make a point of looking at to pick up good ideas. Everybody is friendly and welcoming. It is a very inclusive school with a “can do” approach to problem solving when a child encounters barriers to their learning.”
In response to the proposed Children and Families Act 2014, Lewisham Education Authority have requested that all schools publish information pertaining to the provision they make for children with Special Educational Needs and Disability. Details of our SEND provision can be found in our SEND Information Report.
